National Certificate in Music (Level 2)
Course details
NZQF Level | 2 |

About the course
The national certificate recognises a base level of knowledge, skills, and competence in music as a pathway to further education and training. It may recognise core knowledge and skills in the areas of music performance, composition, theory, analysis, literature, and/or industry.
The elective section enables the selection of specialist music competencies and other related skills such as dance, drama, Maori performing arts, or performing arts general. This could be demonstrating knowledge or performance of dance, devised drama, or a maori art or performing arts bracket.
The flexible structure of the qualification allows education and training providers to tailor music programmes to meet candidate needs, and the local or national needs for a wide range of opportunities. The qualification can include credits from both unit standards and achievement standards. Credits achieved towards the qualification can also be used towards the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 1) [Ref: 0928] (NCEA).
The qualification is the first of several levels in the sub-field Music, and leads to higher level music qualifications. While the qualification enables a selection of unit and achievement standards at Level 2 or above, it is expected that nearly all candidates will make their selection from standards at Levels 2 and 3.
It is recommended that people have previously gained credit for Music unit or achievement standards at Level 1, or are able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
